Paul’s Plaid 13 – Double sided geometric plaids in sunset colours based on browns. Another entry in my design series inspired by and in remembrance of the shirts worn by my father.
This is woven from 100% fine cotton. The base plaid is chocolate brown and a pink hued beige. Bands of burnt orange, salmon pink and a baby blue were integrated into the warp (base). The shawl was woven in the same plus 6 other colours – all in sunset shades. Each side of the shawl is different – one bolder, the other more subtle. This is a very time intensive weave as each individual colour change must be tied off. The weave is also slower as each colour change necessitates a shuttle and yarn change, balancing two to three colours at a time. Concentration is key to keep the pattern correct. It has beautiful drape, full of texture due to the intricate weave structure and striped and plaid colour changes.
The uses for this cloth are endless: table runner, summer blanket, shawl with jeans, towel for after a swim or sauna, wall hanging.
Great wrap to guard against wind and cold. It has weight and can be worn outdoors on a walk, or on the sofa watching Netflix. Also a perfect companion for sitting on the veranda in the evening or morning, drinking coffee or sipping wine coolers!
The cloth is soft and drapey. It has been machine washed, line dried, then pressed.
Materials: 100% fine cotton from Brassard. Hand twisted fringe. Machine wash possible.

I rarely weave the same cloth or item twice. Every piece is unique and numbered, every creation has a story to tell.
The cotton I buy is from Maurice Brassard in Québec. This is one of the world’s finest cotton spun yarns. Cotton is a natural fibre that is soft, breathable and absorbent. Cotton can be cool, yet offer warmth, is strong, and can stand up against abrasion wear and high temperature. In one word, cotton is comfortable.
