Like all men born of a certain age my father loved a good plaid shirt. He wore both flannel and cotton his entire life, prefering any shade of brown. But he also had other colours – greys, greens, some blues and reds. As I started earning money I would indulge him in colourful Signum shirts from Germany (which he loved) but he kept going back to all things plaid (in outer wear and in pjs and bathrobes). My father was an author and once made the famous Plugger cartoon – wearing plaid!
A while ago I was weaving a plaid silk mohair shawl and thought, wow – my father would have totally worn this. So began my Paul’s Plaid Series. Not all colour combos would have passed muster with PRM but most would have. Not all are plaids, some are just his colours. These are special makes for me and if you ever end up owning one (whether bought or gifted) remember that this item was woven with tons of aroha.
