White Waves – A time consuming weave in a wave structure to create movement across the cloth.

The base of the scarf is 100% cotton in fuchsia. Woven with a unique variegated coloured cotton. The cotton has spring and the colours move through the entire cloth. There are elements of fuchsia, raspberry, red and white. The white areas pop up throughout, looking like waves.

Patience is key to keep the pattern correct. Each row must be bascially woven twice to create the movement in the cloth, so a time consuming weave. There are open and collapsed areas throughout from how the shuttle creates the wave structure.

The uses for this cloth are multiple: table runner, one sided placemats, shawl with jeans, scarf, wall hanging, pop of colour on a sofa or chair. It has weight and can be worn outdoors on a walk, as a shawl at a party pinned to the side, or across the length of a table.

The cloth is soft and very drapey.  It has been hand washed, drape dried, then pressed.

Materials: 100% cotton. Loose fringe. Hand wash only to preserve the wave structure. Brush out the fringe when needed to keep neat.

This one-off piece is Work 288. I rarely weave the same cloth or item twice. Every piece is unique and numbered, every creation has a story to tell.

The cotton I buy is from Maurice Brassard in Québec. This is one of the world’s finest cotton spun yarns. Cotton is a natural fibre that is soft, breathable and absorbent. Cotton can be cool, yet offer warmth, is strong, and can stand up against abrasion wear and high temperature. In one word, cotton is comfortable.
