Peachy Keen – Shades of coral and light orange with a splash of mango yellow. This is an incredibly soft cloth.

Woven in pure fine Polwarth yarn. Celebrating Pantone 2024, the base was hand dyed in low immersion to create a spectrum of peach shades, with the addition of a splash of yellow in deep mango and bronze. The cloth was woven in the same. Almost tone-in-tone, but different enough to create depth in the design.

The design is based on a Möbius plane which creates a distorted twist in the front. Best worn with the shoulder seam to the side as that highlights the pattern matching and creates an asymmetric fashionable look. It can also be worn with the V-created seam towards the back. The twist is still in the front, though deeper. And the back is longer, having more of a traditional poncho shape.

Poncho capes are versatile – and warm as they cover the small of your back and shoulders well. Great wrap to guard against wind and cold on those trans-seasonal days. It has weight and can be worn outdoors pedaling your bike or on a walk, or on the sofa watching Netflix. Also a perfect companion for sitting on the veranda in the evening or morning, drinking coffee or sipping wine coolers!

The shoulder seam and edges have been hand finished for a neat professional look and to avoid loosening.

The poncho is very soft and drapey, and will offer warm comfort to the wearer.  It has been hand washed, hung dried, then pressed.

Materials: 100% fine Polwarth wool. Hand wash.

This one-off piece is Work 189. I never weave the same cloth or item twice. Every piece is unique and numbered, every creation has a story to tell.

The Polwarth wool I use has been farmed, processed, milled and spun in the South Island of NZ. This is the highest quality undyed base yarn I can buy in NZ. Polwarth were originally bred (1880s) of one-quarter Lincoln and and three-quarters Merino bloodlines. NZ bred Polwarth are therefore genetically similar to our famous Merino (cousins perhaps). But the Polwarth fibre excels with shine, staple length and clarity. The longer fibre reduces prickle, while the shine and clarity bring out the colours, creating a lustre in the cloth. The wool is soft enough to wear against skin, and is known for its softness, drape and sheen.
