Smokey Beetroot. Handwoven gender neutral elegant cape in super soft merino.

Entirely hand dyed in NZ fine merino yarn. The base was low immersion dyed in different shades of grey and blue to create a palette ranging from charcoal to steel blue. The pattern was dyed in a purple and red combination to create a deep beetroot purple.

Diamond twill treadlings create a gorgeous pattern in natural merino.

The cape rests on your shoulders as a casual coat, but can also be worn thrown over one side as a wrap. Capes are incredibly versatile – and warm as they cover the small of your back and shoulders well. It can also be belted like a poncho garment. Perfect for an evening out, or snuggling on the sofa or deck. Merino offers incredible warmth while remaining very lightweight.

The middle back seam has been hand stitched to avoid loosening.

The cape has been hand washed and dried, then pressed.

Materials: 100% fine NZ merino. Hand twisted fringe. Hand wash only.

This one-off piece is Work 164. I never weave the same cloth or item twice. Every piece is unique and numbered, every creation has a story to tell.

The Merino wool I use has been farmed, processed, milled and spun in the South Island of NZ. This is the highest quality undyed base yarn I can buy in NZ. Merino wool comes from our Merino sheep and is renowned for its exceptional properties: its fantastic softness, durability, cooling/heating and breathability. The fibres of Merino are softer, finer and more sensitive than many other fibres – the main difference to other wools.
